Sydney International Undergraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship at the University of Sydney

Sydney International Undergraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship at the University of Sydney

Overview

The University of Sydney offers around 20 undergraduate scholarships each year to strong international students from a range of priority markets. The award covers tuition for a single undergraduate degree, so the main benefit is that your course fees are paid for the full published duration of the degree. It applies to many undergraduate courses at the University of Sydney, not one fixed programme. Selection also looks at spread across courses and nationalities.

Subjects and level

Bachelor's degree in any subject available at the University. The degree must be a single undergraduate coursework degree, and some course combinations are excluded under the eligibility rules.

Awards available

About 20 scholarships are given globally each year, split across the two intakes. The University spreads them to keep a mix of courses and nationalities, so the award is not limited to one field or one country.

Who can apply

International students. Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and dual citizens with Australian nationality cannot apply.

What the award covers

The award pays 100% of tuition fees plus Student Services Amenities Fees (SSAF) for the published full-time duration of your single undergraduate degree, up to a maximum total duration of 4 years full-time study.

Nothing else is covered. You pay all other costs of studying at the University of Sydney, including Overseas Health Cover (OSHC), living costs, accommodation, textbooks, flights, and any costs that come with being under the age of 18.

Eligibility requirements

You must:

  • have applied for a single undergraduate coursework degree (which may include embedded honours) at the University of Sydney, and not yet have started it, when the award is made; the degree must last no more than 4 years. Only applicants for eligible courses are considered. Combined degrees with a postgraduate component are excluded, as are the Bachelor of Arts (Dual Degree, Sciences Po, France), the Bachelor of Economics (Dual Degree, Sciences Po, France), and degrees that include the Bachelor of Advanced Studies.
  • enrol in the eligible degree full-time
  • not be starting a second degree at the University of Sydney
  • be an international student as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003. Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and dual citizens with Australian nationality are not eligible
  • have completed secondary school or a foundation program in Australia, or at a University of Sydney recognised foundation partner
  • not have done any tertiary studies before (extension studies taken as part of a year 12 program do not count)

Who should apply

This suits an international school leaver or foundation program graduate who has just finished secondary study and has not started university. If you are applying for your first undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney and can study full-time, you fit the profile.

It is not for students moving from another degree, for Australian citizens or permanent residents, or for anyone applying to the excluded combined and dual degree courses.
