Overview
Up to 200 exceptional recipients of the Australian Awards Scholarships (AAS) from around the world can join the Australia Awards Leadership Program alongside their scholarship. The program is an extra, not a replacement, and is run by the Australian Government.
While in Australia, participants take part in leadership training, development discussions and networking with other awardees. It adds a leadership component to your existing AAS award.
Awarded by
Participating institutions in Australia.
Subjects and level
To be considered for this supplementary program, you must be applying for a postgraduate course at either Masters or PhD level. Your chosen study program also needs to align with your home country’s priority areas for development.
Who can apply
You qualify for ADS only if you hold citizenship in one of the participating countries across Asia, the Pacific, Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean and Latin America. The full list of participating countries is available.
What the award covers
Selected AAL scholars receive the same entitlements as the AAS, plus they complete a Leadership for Development Program during their time in Australia.
Eligibility requirements
Selection looks at your leadership qualities, academic competence, and above all, how much potential you have to influence development outcomes back in your home country.
How to apply
There is no separate application form for the AAL program. If you want to be considered, you must show your interest on the Scholarship Application Form for the AAS. The deadline is the same as the deadline for the Australia Awards Scholarships.
Check the website of the Australian embassy or commission in your country, and the official scholarship website (links below), for full details on how to apply.
