Canada's list is university money, not a national scheme. Of 22 scholarships across 18 hosts, 11 are Bachelor's, 8 PhD and 7 Master's, and most are paid by a single campus: UBC, Manitoba and York each hold two. Only one listed deadline is still ahead, so almost every date here needs rechecking against the funder's own page before you plan.

University awards: where eleven of the Bachelor's places are funded

Undergraduate money comes from campuses. Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship covers tuition, books, incidental fees and full residence support for four years, deadline 6 November 2026. University of Calgary International Entrance Scholarship pays $20,000, renewable in years two to four, deadline 1 December 2025. Carleton Prestige Scholarships range from $20,000 to $32,000 and need a 90 percent admission average. York's President's International Scholarship of Excellence reaches $180,000 over four years, deadline January 27, 2027.

Needs-based and bursary awards: smaller sums divided among applicants

Two UBC awards, the International Scholars Program and its second listing, set value by financial need: tuition, fees and living costs minus family contribution, renewable up to three more years, deadline 15 November. The University of Manitoba International Undergraduate Student Bursary divides $240,000 a year among eligible students, so the amount per recipient depends on how many are selected, deadline October 1st. Winnipeg's President's Scholarships for World Leaders pay a flat $5,000, deadline 1 June.

Doctoral and graduate funding: stipends tied to one supervisor or faculty

PhD money is large but institutional. Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships pay $50,000 a year for three years, but you must be nominated by one Canadian institution holding a quota. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships give $40,000 a year for three years plus up to $20,000 a year for languages and research travel, deadline 17 Nov 2025. University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships pay $20,000 to $25,000 a year, with deadlines varying per faculty. The Waterloo International Master's Award of Excellence is $2,500 per term for up to five terms.

Questions about studying on a scholarship in Canada

Which Canadian scholarships are open to international students at Bachelor's level?

Eleven of the 22 listed are Bachelor's awards, including the Pearson scholarship at Toronto, Calgary's entrance award, Carleton's prestige scholarships, York's international awards and Humber's entrance scholarships of $1500 to $4000.

Do I need a Canadian study permit to apply?

Several awards require one. UBC's International Scholars Program requires a Canadian study permit, York requires a study permit, and Waterloo requires a valid Canadian study permit plus full-time registration assessed international tuition.

Can I apply for the Vanier or BCDI 2030 scholarships on my own?

No. Vanier requires nomination by one Canadian institution holding a quota, and BCDI 2030 does not accept individual applications: Canadian institutions and their partners in 26 eligible countries run the call and choose recipients.

How many listed deadlines are still ahead?

Only one of the 22 listed scholarships has a deadline ahead. Dates such as 30 October 2024, 30 Apr 2020 and 20 April 2016 have passed, so verify each date on the funder's page before applying.

Start with the campus that holds your admission, then check each deadline directly with the funder.
