What the award covers
DAAD Helmut-Schmidt-Programme scholarship holders do not pay tuition fees. DAAD pays a monthly scholarship rate of currently 992 €. The scholarship also includes contributions to health insurance in Germany, an appropriate travel allowance, a study and research subsidy, and rent subsidies and/or allowances for spouses and/or children where applicable.
Before your study programme starts, you must complete a 4-month German language course. Attendance is mandatory.
Eligibility requirements
You must be a graduate from a developing country with a bachelor's degree or equivalent:
- You should have a well-qualified first university degree, as a rule in social and political sciences, law, economics, public policy and administration.
- You must be willing to actively contribute to the social, political and economic development of your home country or region.
- You need practical experience relevant to the programme, such as professional experience, internships, or political and social commitment.
Language requirements and certificates vary by master's course. Each master's course has its own selection criteria (degree, grades, language skills, work experience, etc.) that you must meet in addition to DAAD's selection criteria.
