The Endeavour Postgraduate Leadership Award is a funding scheme from the Australian Government for international students who want to earn a Masters or PhD in Australia. You can study by coursework or research in any field. The award provides money for living costs, travel, insurance and tuition. It lasts up to 2 years for a Masters and up to 4 years for a PhD.

What the award covers

Every successful Endeavour Leader receives a stipend of AU$3,000 per month. This is capped at AU$36,000 per calendar year and is paid on a pro-rata basis up to the maximum duration of your category.

Individual Endeavour Leaders can also get:

  • a travel allowance of up to AU$3,000 (with a provision to pay up to AU$4,500 in special circumstances)
  • an establishment allowance of between AU$2,000 and AU$4,000, depending on your category and the length of the award
  • health insurance for the full category duration (Overseas Student Health Cover [OSHC] for international recipients)
  • travel insurance (but not during the program for international recipients)

If you are an international Endeavour Leader doing a postgraduate qualification (Masters or PhD), you can also receive tuition fees of up to AU$30,000 per calendar year. This is paid on a pro-rata basis up to the maximum study or research duration. Tuition covers student service and amenities fees.

The scholarship runs for up to 2 years for a Masters and up to 4 years for a PhD.

Eligibility requirements

To take part in the ELP, individual applicants must:

  • not carry out their Leadership Activity in a country where they hold citizenship, dual citizenship or permanent residency. International Individual Endeavour Leaders must do their activity in Australia and must not hold Australian citizenship, dual citizenship or permanent residency.
  • be aged 18 years or over when their Leadership Activity starts
  • not be receiving any other Australian Government sponsored mobility, scholarship or fellowship benefits

How to apply

The Australian Government has announced there will be no further rounds of the Endeavour Leadership Program (ELP).

As part of the eligibility requirements, you must submit a letter of admission (offer letter) for a Masters or Graduate Diploma leading into a Masters course, or for a PhD course, at an Australian university for the 2019 academic year.

Applications go through the Endeavour Online (EOL) system. They close at 11.59 p.m. Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time (AEDT) on 15 November 2018.
