IDB Scholarships for Muslim Communities in Non-Member Countries

IDB Scholarships for Muslim Communities in Non-Member Countries

Overview

The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) runs the Scholarship Programme for Muslim Communities in Non-Member Countries (SPMC). It supports bright Muslim students who lack the money to pay for a first university degree. You can study in your own country or, in some cases, in an IDB member country.

Awarded by

You must already be admitted or in your first year at a recognised college or university in your home country. If professional courses are not offered there, the IDB may help place you at a university in an IDB member country that has offered places to IDB students.

Subjects and level

Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture and other related fields.

Awards available

Not specified.

Who can apply

Muslim students from eligible non-member countries.

What the award covers

The award is an interest-free loan to you, but a grant to your community. After you graduate and find work, you must repay the loan to your community (IDB Local Trusts). That money then funds scholarships for other local students.

The programme pays for all relevant costs during your studies, such as tuition fees, health costs and living expenses, as set by the IDB.

Eligibility:

To qualify, you must meet these conditions:

  • Be no older than 24 years.
  • Have completed senior secondary or pre-university education with good grades in major science subjects and in the language of instruction.
  • Be admitted to a covered discipline at a recognised college or university in your own country.
  • Not hold any other scholarship when you apply or during your studies.
  • Be a committed and needy Muslim.
  • Be recommended by the Counterpart Organization.

How to apply

Ask for details and get application forms from Counterpart Organizations in beneficiary countries. The programme is announced through these organizations and runs on a 12-month cycle of academic and logistic activities each year. The deadline varies but is around June-December each year.
