Overview
The Asian Institute of Technology offers a 1-year Master’s Degree Program in Marine Plastic Abatement, funded by the Japanese government. This new program, launched in AY 2020 (August 2020 start), is designed to train a new generation of Asian environmental leaders and leaders from developing countries to combat ocean plastic litter through advanced technologies and sound management practices. The scholarship is a one-time support.
Since the top 6 countries discharging the most plastic debris into the ocean are in Asia, this scholarship aims to empower young Asian practitioners, social entrepreneurs, officials, and professionals who can play significant roles in marine plastic abatement, which is key for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The scholarship supports the “MARINE Initiative” unveiled at the G20 Osaka Summit in 2019, which aims to reduce additional pollution by marine plastic litter to zero by 2050.
