Overview
The Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) is accepting applications for its PhD program. BIGSSS is a joint institute of the University of Bremen and Jacobs University Bremen, supported by the German Excellence Initiative. The program offers close supervision of dissertation work within a tailored education and research framework, and fellows are expected to live in Bremen. BIGSSS provides funds for research, presentation, and publication, and helps doctoral fellows gain early scientific independence. The language of instruction is English.

Who can apply
Non-German students are strongly encouraged to apply. BIGSSS aims to increase the share of women in the university and therefore also strongly encourages women to apply. Disabled persons will receive preferential treatment when qualifications are otherwise equal.
What the award covers
Ph.D. stipends of € 1300/month for 36 months, contingent on successful completion of each year
Eligibility requirements
BIGSSS seeks candidates with strong academic abilities and a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in political science, sociology, or psychology. Applicants with a degree in related social science disciplines are also welcome.
