Some scholarships are run by a single school or college inside a university rather than by the university as a whole. These awards are tied to your subject area, so they often match your course more closely than a general university award. Fewer applicants know they exist, which usually means less competition than for university-wide or well-known scholarships. The catch is that they are harder to find.

Take the Institute of Education, a school under the University of London. It runs its own awards, including the Centenary Masters Scholarships for International Students. That is a school-level scholarship, not a university-level one.

Where the information sits varies. Sometimes the university's main scholarship page lists these awards. Sometimes they appear only in the university's own scholarship database. Most often they are buried on the college or school's own scholarship page, which is why students miss them.
